Hi, James. It's good practice to rinse all residues out unless they are meant to be left in to continue working, such as with peroxide. You can use this on colored carpet but there is always a chance of color loss, so apply produce in an area to test it, or at minimum watch the reaction carefully and rinse it out if you notice any change to the color.

We have used this product to remove furniture stains and organic dyes. When the original stain color is gone, then rinse with a hand tool. We also have the active ingredient in a powder form for removing dye bleeding (ReduceAll).

If you rinse all residues and then blot the wet cloth over it. After doing it, use vinegar and baking soda mixture to clean the spots and i am sure you will get better results.
